At the weekend, we celebrated Ted’s 4th birthday and as well as the usual kids party food I decided to make dips for the adults to enjoy. I love a great dip and very often when the boys are eating their cheese and pickle sandwiches on a Saturday you will find me eating hummus and sweet potato chips for my lunch. Dips are a quick, simple and easy recipes.
My homemade dips are really nutritious and have plenty of vitamins and minerals for a healthy body. All of the dips in this recipe are vegan and can be frozen. So I normally make a lot and then any of the dips I don’t eat I put in the freezer. It makes it easy for the next meal I have with dips.
Plus if you only need a small amount for your dinner or if you are feeding a baby or toddler then you can freeze into ice cube trays too. Then pop a couple out of the tray, defrost and spread in a sandwich or for them to eat as part of baby led weaning.
When weaning Ted I used to freeze a lot of his meals including hummus or an avocado dip. He loved it when he was finally able to eat without throwing up. Avocado dips were one of his favourites but sadly they are no longer a good food to Ted. One day I’m sure he will like dips again.
Dips are also great as part of a dinner but they are also good instead of sauces on burgers and they make delicious sandwich fillings as well. They are a healthy alternative to the usual cheese or ham sandwiches. When I could eat bread I used to love a salad sandwich with hummus as a spread in the sandwich. So dips are a versatile food that the whole family can enjoy and the ones below are well worth a try. Here are our top four,
- A Yummy Simple Hummus It’s always a winner with me. Nothing beats that creamy smooth texture and is great with a few sweet potato chips.
- Aubergine Dip This dip is an idea I got from a friend about a year ago. My friend served this with a roast dinner and it was delicious.
- Smoked Paprika Guacamole It has a beautiful smokey taste but is smooth and creamy. I normally enjoy this dip with chips or a chickpea flour wrap.
- Cashew Nut Cream Cheese A new dip to my menu but very yummy. It’s smooth and I have to say does taste like cream cheese. In fact I think it tastes better.
So there are four of my favourite dips for you to enjoy. I can not say that my little family indulge in these dips. It’s just me who loves eating them. So it’s all the more for me. However you decide to eat these dips, as always, enjoy. xxx
