Today’s world is a fast pace place and it can feel like we all need to keep up with this speedy way of life. It’s so easy to get swept along with society and neglect ourselves and our bodies. We all need to take a break and I know I’m guilty of never stopping to breathe. Nowadays it’s so hard for us to sit down and unwind. For lots of people it’s like we are switched on 24/7 and I think this is making us sick.

Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan have stated in the past that they would like to eradicate disease in their lifetime. Personally I think this is a dangerous statement. Now please don’t take this the wrong way. I’m not about to start glamourising large diseases that have killed thousands. What I am saying is humans being unwell occasionally in their life is never bad.

For me, getting sick means that my body needs to take a rest. Yes I know we live in a place that does not really allow for illness. However, when I get sick, my body is trying to send my brain a message. It’s letting those little grey cells know it’s time for a lie down. Also when my body finally recovers it makes me appreciate my health again.

Too often in this world people are so quick to pop a pill. I used to be one of these people and I would never look at the cause of my illness. I would just simply treat the symptoms. Since starting my sugar free journey I now prefer to look at what I’m doing, eating and feeling that maybe contributing when I get sick. I will always try to take five minutes to slow down and assess my situation. If I need to go to bed I  will try to do it as soon as possible.

If we try to eradicate disease in our lifetime how will we know when we need to stop? Personally I no longer regard getting sick as a bad thing. To me, it’s my body’s way of telling me I need to take a break. Modern life can get hectic but I now consider my body to be important. When it’s sick I listen and I know to resolve the issues with the food, nourishment and relaxation I think it needs. The days of popping pills and hoping everything will go away are long gone.

Now I’m beginning to realise that my body is one of the most important items I will ever own. It needs plenty of nourishment and good food to help me survive. It will also tell me when I have gone too far and that I need to slow down. I now know that when I catch a bug or I’m feeling under the weather in time it will pass. So when I get sick I don’t need pills, potions or injections I need time and a little bit of loving care. These are the elements that will help me to heal from the inside out and they will make me healthy and happy again.
